Wintering Well
A Virtual Wisdom Circle | December 18th
Earth Meets Body had an out-of-season hibernation and is coming alive with the frigid temps.
My two huskies and I have been thoroughly enjoying the snow that we got over the past 2 weeks. We’ve taken the dog sled out more times since our first snow than the entirety of last year. We do short distances and we’re learning to work together in this way. It can be a challenge to focus on the path ahead instead of healthy distractions like subterranean vermin and piles of fresh deer entrails.
These two animal companions of mine have ushered me into being a winter person. Stillness, muted activity, introspection. Long underwear, wool socks, leg warmers. Simmered tea, 24 hr bone broth, oats, hot coffee. Time to look into the eyes of others, practice a craft, process the day.
The softness of my surroundings comforts my system. If I fall on the trail, the snow cushions me and there’s time to sink in, look up and breathe.
But I haven’t always been this way. Especially after spending half of my 20s in California - I was softened. And to be honest, I wasn’t always interested in getting to know winter.
I’d love to share with you the ways in which I’ve come to know my winter-self and provoke some curiosity within you.
We’ll join together virtually at 6:30pm central time on December 18th. This gathering will include
